 Welcome to artnudephotography.net.

This web site is dedicated to fine art nude photography, and the images on this site seek to depict the nude figure in a non sexual way, with the emphasis on beauty and form.

Many of my images combine both landscape and nude photography to express the idea that our bodies are fundamentally connected with the earth and a large proportion of my outdoor work has been taken around Perthshire, Fife, Tayside and the highlands. Most of my subjects are female, but you will find some male nudes as well on my site.

Why nudes in landscapes ?

The human race seems to have detached itself from the rest of the living world, however it wasn't always like this. Going back through time we can see that once our exisitence was much more linked to nature and to the earth. In the creative order of things the earth came first, then life in the seas, plants and animals, finally mankind. The Genesis account sets this out poetically, and in it we see ourselves as part of a whole creation, not separate. The shape and textures of our bodies are just as astounding and beautiful as anything in else in nature and echo the contours and textures of the earth. In Genesis God states that each stage in the creative process was good. On the sixth day, after he had made man and woman the text says
'God saw all that he had made, and it was very good' Genesis Ch 1 v31.

Buried somewhere deep in our hearts we have the desire to return to the idyll of the sixth day. An earth without corruption, where we could simply be, without all the artefacts of our busy modern lives. Our bodies belong to the earth, and the earth calls us to return.

The earth is a lving body and our bodies are living landscapes. We can take innocent pleasure in the landscape of a beautiful body, just as we do in the landscape of the earth. They belong together, and one informs the other. In my photography I try to capture all these living and elemental forces together - light and dark, earth wind and sky. Flesh, and bone and hair.

The Creative Process

Shooting nudes outdoor in Scotland is very much a performance art. Often the weather is not particularly warm, and can change very quickly from sunny and mild, to cold and wet, so although one might arrive at a location with a particular concept in mind it often has to be quickly adapted to something quite different to suit the changing light conditions, temperature etc.. Also the models are not mannequins, but creative people with ideas of their own who actively or intuitively interact with the landscape. It is often my privilege as a photographer to capture a unique moment in space and time when the figure, pose, landscape, and light combine for a few seconds to create a powerful image.

If you like my work, or feel moved by a specific image please feel free to leave a comment. If you have any specific questions about my work you can send me a message via the contact page. All of my work is published on this web site free, but prints are available for sale.

I hope that you will enjoy my images and be inspired by them !
